Neurosurgery

Dr. Richard Wohns is a board certified neurosurgeon who completed his neurosurgical residency at the University of Washington under Dr. Arthur Ward.  Dr. Wohns has been in private practice in Washington State since 1983.  He founded Neospine which offers a complete palette of leading-edge neurosurgical and interventional pain management services, plus diagnostic techniques.  Neospine offers minimally invasive and outpatient spine surgery, complex spine surgery, interventional pain management and MRI imaging.
Dr. Wohns is a pioneer in outpatient spine surgery and has published scientific papers and book chapters on many aspects of outpatient spine surgery, plus presented at scientific meetings worldwide.   Dr. Wohns designed and built one of the first outpatient spine surgery centers which is located in Neospine's Brain & Spine Center in Puyallup, Washington.  

 

 

Mountain Medicine

Dr. Wohns has served as doctor for mountaineering expeditions to Mt. Kilimanjaro, K2, and Mt. Everest.  He was also medical director on the 1984 Ultima Thule Everest Expedition which performed high altitude brain research.

Dr. Wohns performed an appendectomy on a Balti porter who perforated his appendix while on the K2 expedition.  He was also group physician for several Himalayan treks.  Dr. Wohns is a leader in high altitude medicine and is the former Vice President of the International Society of Mountain Medicine.  Dr. Wohns has published papers and given presentations on high altitude medicine.

Dr. Wohns is an alumnus of the Seattle University School of Law and utilizes his legal knowledge as an expert witness in the realms of patent litigation, credentialing, and medical negligence.
