Dr. Wohns founded the Mazama Spine Summit in 2003 as a think-tank for leaders in the field of outpatient spine surgery. The meeting is now in its 18th year and continues to be the format for discussion of the latest developments in minimally invasive and outpatient spine surgery, including aspects of medical-legal importance. The Mazama Spine Summit is held in the Methow Valley of Washington State at the elegant Sun Mountain Lodge. Participants enjoy numerous recreational opportunities plus wine tasting, in addition to lively and thought-provoking presentations and discussions on new technology and techniques in outpatient and minimally invasive spine surgery. The speakers include renowned neurosurgeons, orthopedic spine surgeons, lawyers specializing in patent law and health law and a special keynote speaker. The Mazama Spine Summit has been called the "mini Davos-World Economic Forum of spine" and "one of the greatest platforms in the world providing the thought leadership and experience sharing for clinicians, attorneys, industry leaders, policy makers, and other professionals."
