Arrived in Kathmandu

We saw the Himalayas as we approached Kathmandu then landed in the verdant Kathmandu valley which, last time I was here had less than 1,000,000 people and now has about 6,000,000.  The chairman of the neurosurgery department picked us up and drove us to our hotel  The streets are packed with cars, cows, scooters, pedestrians, and full of construction zones.  Apparently 50% of deaths in this region are due to MVAs, so the neurosurgeons are busy with trauma, plus spine, tumors, vascular, TB, etc.  Today is my first day at work at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital (TUTH).  Should be exciting!
